5 TIPS OF TIME MANAGEMENT FOR FINAL JEE EXAM PREPARATION

Even before We  go into tell you about how you should prepare yourself for the Maths, Physics or Chemistry, you need to pay attention to this – Without time management no magic is going to help you reach your goals, which is All India Rank !

Realizing this fact of planning, we can make time our friend rather than making it our foe. Always remember – “You need to work smarter in addition to working hard”

There is a difference between sitting with a book 18 hours a day and actually studying 18 hours a day. And you don’t want to sit with a book 18 hours a day you need to put your time to good use as it is limited.

Managing your time over the next 3 months / or 2 months is the most crucial thing that you need to focus on. Not only this, you also need to manage your time during the 3 hours of your actual JEE Main / Advanced exam.

Here are the 5 key mantras  :

a) Complete the most important tasks first –

Studying that one chapter in say, Organic Chemistry is more important now than checking out what is the latest movie release or iPhone game on the block.

Once you have done the important task first, you will have a sense of accomplishment and that will lead you to the next important task.

b) Learn to Say NO to friends & family –

We are not saying you cut yourself off from your friends or family while you prepare for the JEE. There will always be that friend who tried to distract you from your preparation, tell them a polite NO!

Friends and family are always going to be around but if you lose these valuable two months of preparation,  you are not going to get this time back either. So, you decide!

Parth Kothari, IIT Bombay, AIR 11 in JEE Main says, “I knew that if spent too much time with friends, then I could not make it to IIT Bombay ever. I know people felt that I am avoiding them but the news of my success must have made them proud”.

c) Don’t procrastinate and aim for incremental improvement-

some students were a genius in a subject but they could not clear IIT JEE  because they use to postpone studying other subjects like Inorganic Chemistry Mathematics etc .

There  is a great analogy of Incremental improvement method. It is called the 1.01 Law:

  • When we put that out 1% more effort every day, our progress can grow by 3800% in one single year.
  • When we slack off 1% every day, we do not progress, rather we push ourselves to failure!

If you do not like a subject then do not waste time by postponing it, take baby steps towards studying it and gradually you will become a master!

d) Turn important tasks into habits –

There is a well known theory that for any task to become a habit you need to do it for 21 days at stretch, and it will eventually become a habit – be it a good habit or a bad habit.

Make it a habit of revising important formulae and concepts in the morning, especially those which you studied the previous day. Follow this tip and it will work wonders.

Instead of losing hope, a student would daily spend 30 mins at night before sleeping and 15 mins after the woke up the next day to just go through his reagent notes. This was so helpful for him that he  not only topped the Organic Chemistry part test of FIITJEE but also cleared IIT JEE with a good rank.

e) Set a time duration to everything you do –

Our brain is a funny object! If you tell it that you have just 1 hour to study a chapter, it will give you reverse feedback and make sure that you finish it in not more than an hour.

However, if you set aside 4 hours for something that could be done easily in 1 hour, our brain will be slow in that process and it will end up making you take those 4 hours to complete the task – what a waste of time.

JEE MAIN APRIL 2019 : HOW TO IMPROVE RANKING ?

With NTA’s decision to conduct the JEE Main exams twice a year from 2019, many aspirants are at an added advantage. The first phase of the JEE Main 2019 concluded on January 12 and the students who are not sure of getting a better rank also have a second chance to take exams in April (April 6-20). Registration for the April session will be starting from February 8 to March 7, 2019.

The Common Rank List for JEE Main 2019 will be available in the first week of May after the declaration of the results of the April exam. The better of the scores of candidates who have appeared in both JEE Main January and April will be considered for the ranking purposes while the scores of the candidates who have appeared for just one exam will be used as it is. The common rank lists will denote the All India and Category ranks of the candidates in addition to the details of the candidates and marks obtained. The JEE Main rank will be the basis for admissions to the NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

For those who could not do well in the January session need not worry as the April session is another chance for all students who wish to improve their scores. The following points must be kept in mind when taking up the April session of JEE Main 2019.

  • One must NOT repeat the same mistakes committed in January Session of JEE Main. Learning from mistakes is important.
  • Complete your syllabus if not done earlier.
  • Practice questions from Previous Year JEE Main Papers and even from January session of JEE 2019.
  • Use the Gap between your Board Exams to revise and take up Mock Tests on online Mode from reputed source for consistency in preparation.
  • Keep a check on your speed & accuracy as it is also important as to how you solve the paper for a high score.
  • You must have done the Test Analysis of the JEE Paper you took in January and ensure you are confident with each of those questions now.
  • Take help from your Subject Teachers to clear your doubts and speak to them in case of any conceptual doubts or problems which you are unable to solve.
  • Prepare a quick revision plan and categorize the chapters like:
    > Easy- generally you can solve any problem from these chapter/topic
    > Moderate- you take time to solve but your concepts of these chapters are clear
    > Difficult- you have not been able to understand the concepts in these chapter and find questions from these chapters tough.
  • While revising ensure you may have to take help from your teachers for the Difficult chapters and get all your concepts cleared as merely devoting time on these chapters may not help. You can join a crash course for these topics.
  • For the Moderate Chapters you will need more practice so devote time daily so that you have completed solving adequate no. of questions from these chapters.
  • For the chapters/Topics you find Easy it is important that you are always able to solve any given question from them. So, you must solve some questions even from these topics but avoid spending too much time on these as you are already good in these chapters.
  • While solving questions keep a check on your time and develop short cuts to avoid lengthy calculations. Use of diagrams/graphs will expedite your answers.
  • Try to remember all important formulae, named reactions as this will add to your speed while solving.
  • Your Speed, Accuracy and Time management will be an important parameter for success in JEE Main (April),2019.
  • Most importantly take care of your physical and mental fitness as there are external factors influencing your performance in the exam.
  • Avoid taking up new books or start any new chapters before the exam as this may spoil your confidence level.
  • Maintain a positive attitude throughout your preparation and remain focused. Staying confident and keeping calm while taking the exam also helps get a desired score.

For those who missed out on the first attempt or want to improve their ranking to qualify for JEE Advanced, here is a better chance. Attempting the first Main exam should be considered as a mock test which clarifies the weak areas for detailed analysis and further preparations.

Strengthen your weaker subjects :

Identify the chapters whose questions were difficult to solve. Consult teachers and faculty for clearing doubts. Allocate extra hours every week for the difficult subjects and doubt-clearing sessions. Discipline is the key to follow the time table. Keep one hour in a week for self-analysis and correction.

Utilise the gap between board exams :

Board exams and the second attempt to JEE Main being closely scheduled, preparations for both need to be planned meticulously. However, the challenge remains about how to focus and go about it to emerge victorious in both the exams. There are certain sub-topics in various subjects which generally get more weightage in the Boards because the questions are subjective type. There are also some topics which are included in JEE Main, but not part of the JEE Advanced exam and students tend to ignore them during their preparation. For example, in Physics, the chapters on Electronic Devices and Communications Systems are part of JEE Main and the Board exam, but not part of the JEE Advanced Exam. Students should carefully study these chapters along with the questions from the sample papers so that they can comfortably handle descriptive questions from these chapters.

Practice questions but with concept clarity :

Though a good number of problem-solving is essential, but one needs concept clarity to accelerate success as the exam may not have a fixed pattern. Though it is good to solve questions, focus more on making the concepts transparent.

Aspirants are however advised to give in their best shot as it is finally the relative performance in the actual exam that will fetch you a good rank in JEE 2019.

HOW TO USE YOUR STUDY BREAKS EFFECTIVELY TO REFRESH YOUR MIND ?

A relaxed and stress free mind is more efficient to absorb a piece of information. So, it’s important for every student to take out some time from their hectic, busy study schedule to set their brain at rest and give it some refreshment. For this, study breaks must be scheduled at regular intervals. Taking breaks from studying every ninety minutes or so can improve both focus and attention.

In addition to taking regular study breaks, what you do with each break can matter, too. Actually, it’s really important to choose the right type of activity for your study break so that you can return back refreshed and focused, ready to get back to your books.

Some healthy and mind refreshing activities which a student must practice during the study breaks are given below:
  • Go outside to take a walk and get some fresh air. Even a brisk walk can be effective as it helps to make the blood flow smoother, which ultimately helps to re-energize each of your body part.
  • Stretch out your body to move every stiffened body part. When you study, you sit in the same position for long periods of time. Taking some time to stretch your muscles out can help relax you.
  • Taking a quick shower can also prove to be helpful to re-energize your brain and body. Everyone feels revitalized and rejuvenated when they are fresh out of the shower. Thus, take a five or ten minute shower during a study break so as to help you revitalize and refresh your body and mind.
  • Another prominent activity you can try is meditation. During one of your scheduled breaks, take a few mindful minutes to meditate in a calm and quiet place. Focus on some breathing exercises, which can really revitalize and invigorate the mind so that it’s ready to absorb more information.
  • Take some healthy snacks as they can help to stabilize your blood sugar, calm your hunger pangs and assist with healthy brain function. But please, stay away from the junk foods and too much caffeine.
  • Take a 15-20 minute nap. This is the best way to rest your mind and proves to be much beneficial for improved alertness and performance.
  • Creative activities, like coloring, drawing or a quick dance off can also be helpful to boost energy, clear your mind and take up your mood, even if you are not artistic at all.

TIPS TO GET 100 PERCENTILE IN FINAL JEE MAIN 2019 ATTEMPT : MUST READ

Students aiming for admissions to IITs this year have to appear for JEE Main 2019, which is the most competitive engineering entrance exam. As we all know that final attempt JEE Main 2019 will be conducted in the month of April.

Below we have discussed the most important points to be focused which will help you to crack JEE Main in this final Attempt :

1. Syllabus – students must be aware of the syllabus for the engineering entrance exam as the question paper is based completely on the syllabus only, so students must check latest and updated syllabus.

2. Paper pattern and marking scheme – apart from the syllabus, aspirants must know about the paper pattern of IIT JEE which mentions the type of questions, marking scheme, questions’ weightage as well as other important details of IIT JEE question paper.

3. Study Material – Suitable study material for preparation of examination is really important because of right study material for JEE preparation. The JEE preparation study material should include past year question papers, mock tests, NCERT books etc. so that the students can only prepare the questions based on syllabus and pattern of JEE main 2019.

4. Emphasis on theory –  JEE paper is based on numerical as well as theory questions, however, students should focus more on the theory part because most questions are formed and asked from theoretical part of chapters. Moreover, understanding theory helps in solving numerical questions easily.

5. Understanding of basic concepts – Before, starting to solve the questions for JEE preparation, make sure you know all the relevant basic concepts. Because, if your basic concepts are not clear then you will be stuck in questions for a long time and it will waste your time. As JEE paper has limited time duration students need to work on time management and clearing basic concepts will help on improving on this part.

6. Read notes for each chapter – For every chapter of JEE syllabus, you can read lecture notes during preparation so, and that it is easier to score in the final exam. Lecture notes help to remind the class demonstration of concepts .

7. Value for quality over quantity – Instead of taking all topics at a time, you need to take concepts from each chapter one by one. This will make your understanding better as you won’t be confused and will take less time with organised learning approach.

8. Previous year question papers – Students should practice JEE Main question papers for at least past 5 years because it will help them estimate the type of question and weightage as well for each section of the test paper.

Also focus on  first attempt JEE Main papers with detail, observe the new exam pattern , and prepare your self according to get good in final Attempt .

9. Give equal importance to class 11 and class 12 subjects (syllabus) – This is no hidden fact that, JEE Main question paper is based on the syllabus of class 11 as well as class 12. The weightage ratio of JEE Main question paper is either 40:60 or 60:40 for class 11 and class 12 but the ratio can be 50:50 as well. So, students need to study from the syllabus of both classes with equal importance.

10. Rejoice your studies and preparation – Don’t take stress while preparation of JEE Main rather you should enjoy and approach the exam positively. If you take the exam as a burden or obligation than you won’t be able to put your best efforts and will be stressed about it. Stress will have a negative impact and you will be prone to anxiety attacks about JEE Main results and won’t be able to perform better.

11. Analyse and take insights of your preparation level – You must regularly do self-analysis which will help you know your strengths and weaknesses. Try to cross-check your preparation level by taking mock tests from chapters you have studied long ago; this way you’ll be able to judge if you understood the concept and whether you will be able to perform in the upcoming exam with accuracy.

12. To know your actual preparation, attempt – To improve your speed and accuracy for the upcoming JEE Main exam, you should take mock test from chapters you have studied a month ago or so for example you studied Coordination compound 1 from chemistry 2 months ago and currently you are preparing Optics from JEE Main physics syllabus, then you can take a test for chemistry Coordination compound 1. This will help you analyse, your preparation for this topic. This is an unplanned manner of preparation to cross-check your preparation.

13. Solve indefinite practice papers – Last formula for success in JEE Main exam in the final attempt is by taking/solving as many as practice papers as possible. The more you practice, the more your speed and accuracy of solving the questions improves. Also, if you are taking a computer-based test of JEE Main then you must take the online mock test as many as possible, this way you will gain experience of attempting online paper on a real-time basis.

Do’s and Don’ts of the Joint Entrance Exam for Admission in IITs and NITs

Due to the nature of this examination, there are several tips, tricks, and most importantly, do’s and don’ts for this exam. The aspirants must know these for a better overall performance and the entire preparation span too, in general. Here are all the do’s and don’ts that you need to know for the Joint Entrance Exam.

Do’s for the Joint Entrance Examination :

Aspirants have to keep a lot of things in their mind for a better performance in the Joint Entrance Examination. Here is a comprehensive list of all that you should be doing for this exam.

  • Make the correct choices: When you are starting your preparation, there are a number of things to decide. You need to understand yourself and judge if you wish to join a coaching or not. Once that is done you would be looking for the perfect coaching for yourself. Apart from this choice, you would also have to choose the books you want to follow, the kind of school you wish to go to, and also the frequency with which you would be attending school. These are some of the most important initial decisions that only you can make. Others can guide you through these choices, but the final choice should be yours so that you don’t have anyone to blame at the end. JEE is not going to give you many chances, thus, making the perfect choices at the correct time is important.
  • Form a good schedule for yourself: Make a schedule that you can actually follow without spoiling your health. The schedule shouldn’t be too draining and should contain small targets which you can extend on completion. Also, you must stay determined throughout to stick to your schedule. You cannot afford to be lazy.
  • Focus on concepts and problem-solving: You shouldn’t try rote learning for everything. Even for topics of inorganic, there would be logic involved in some or the other way. The Joint Entrance Examination tests your conceptual knowledge and logics in different ways. To perform well knowing concept application is as important as knowing the concept. Thus, a lot of practice is needed for faring well in this examination.
  • Complete your syllabus timely and form a revision strategy: Completing your syllabus on time is important since once that is done you will be able to start revising things. Also, after syllabus completion giving full-length mock tests will be possible. Revision should enable you to practice sufficient questions along with proper theory revision. During the last phase revision of the pure theory based portions can fetch you easy marks in the examination as questions based on such topics won’t require much time. Try solving questions in a time-bound manner to increase your speed.
  • Do lots of mock papers and practice past years’ papers: Doing past years’ papers of JEE Main and JEE Advanced will help you in understanding the paper pattern and will acquaint you with the strategy which is best for you to follow during the actual exam. A sudden change or formation of strategy on the final day might make you panic.
  • Stay confident and healthy throughout: Health is a very important factor for performing well. You should avoid unhealthy or unhygienic food and at the same time take proper food without skipping any meals. Form a schedule which doesn’t take away your sleeping or eating hours. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated as this will help you in maintaining focus.

The Joint Entrance Exam is definitely not the easiest exam but remember that it is achievable. Keep a positive attitude and work in an organized way towards your goal. Keep all these above points in your mind at all times and pass the exam with flying colors.

Don’ts for the Joint Entrance Exam :

  • Don’t run for a lot of books and prefer quality: This point is a major don’t for the Joint Entrance Exam. Aspirants start doing every other book that they hear about and end up missing out the things that they should have done. One or two books should be followed per subject and should be done entirely rather than doing bits from a lot of books.
  • Don’t create backlogs or let topics pile up: Keep a day per week for revision and completion of backlogs. Don’t start skipping chapters for the sake of catching up with your coaching or school syllabus. You should give proper time to every topic so there is no last minute hassle or skipping of any important topics.
  • Don’t set unrealistic targets or over-strain yourself: Setting short term goals and then expanding your work will help you in gaining confidence and will boost your speed too. It will motivate you to cover more portions. If you set an extremely tiring schedule for yourself you would not grasp much and would not enjoy studying too. This could prove to be harmful in the long run. Thus, don’t over-strain yourself by over loading and maintain a constant speed of work throughout.
  • Don’t skip tests: Many students are afraid of giving tests as it brings down their confidence. There can be many reasons for giving a lesser number of tests. You must fight all those. If your coaching doesn’t give you sufficient papers try online mock tests or join a test series. Giving tests on a regular basis is of utmost importance. Even if half of your coaching students are skipping some test due to any reason you must not skip it.
  • Don’t use calculators while preparing: Use of calculator is prohibited in JEE. However, a number of school boards allow it and hence students get into the habit of using it. The calculations of school level might be very lengthy but JEE always requires you to solve calculations using some or the other tricks which come only through practice. Also, the speed required for solving long calculations mentally or physically requires practice and is much needed for JEE. Thus, try avoiding the usage of the calculator so that you can develop the correct speed and skills to solve any long calculation too without a calculator.
  • Don’t compare yourself with others or demotivate yourself: If you keep on comparing yourself with others you would never be able to gain confidence. Always try improving your scores and fight with yourself only. This principle will always motivate you to be better than yourself. Also keep away from any friend or acquaintances that lower your confidence.

The above points are the general ones to be followed. However, there will be a lot more points depending upon the way you study. Form your schedule according to yourself and not according to what someone suggests. Add more do’s and don’ts to the above list to suit your schedule completely.

Also, since the exam takes place in two steps, if your JEE Main does not go that well, you should not give up and prepare harder to perform better in JEE Advanced. Don’t accept defeat with a single exam and keep preparing and working till the very last exam. Don’t create pressure on yourself and give all the exams confidently. Keep in mind that it won’t be the end and you can do better the next time.

JEE MAIN 2019: APRIL APPLICATION FORMS FROM FEBRUARY 8 – HOW TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT YOU SHOULD APPEAR AGAIN

NTA would be opening the online application for JEE Main 2019 – II or April Examination on February 8, 2019. Here is all you need to know before deciding whether or not to re-appear. Updates on jeemain.nic.in

National Testing Agency, NTA has released the JEE Main 2019 Jan Scores in record time. As many as 8.7 lakh students had appeared for the JEE Main 2019 January examination. NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2019 April examination next. Online application forms for JEE Main 2019 April examination will commence on jeemain.nic.in from February 8, 2019. Important dates are provided below. However, a question that is bothering students now is whether or not to appear for the JEE Main 2019 April examination.

JEE Main 2019 II April Exam – Important Dates :
  • Start of Online Application – February 8, 2019
  • Last day to apply online on jeemain.nic.in – March 7, 2019
  • JEE Main 2019 II Admit Card Download – March 18, 2019
  • Date of Examination: April 6 to April 20, 2019
  • JEE Main II Result and JEE Main 2019 Ranks – April 30, 2019

While it may appear that there is no flip side to appearing for the April examination again for students who are placed in the 90 percentile and above bracket, that may not be the real case. Students have to carefully examine their score and assess their performance. Remember that the candidates would qualify for the JEE Advanced 2019 based on their JEE Main 2019 Rank. A few things to consider before you decide.

  • The better of the two scores – JEE Main 2019 January or JEE Main 2019 April would be considered should a student choose to appear in both examination.
  • JEE Main 2019 Rank would be considered based on the total NTA score. In case there is a tie, the higher JEE Main Rank would be given to
    1. Students who score higher score in Mathematics
    2. Students who score higher in Physics
    3. Students who score higher in Chemistry
    4. Age (Elder student gets precedence)
  • In case two candidates tally in all the above parameters, the same JEE Main 2019 rank would be allotted to the students.

To decide hence, it would be prudent to assess the raw score from the answer keys that you have scored in the examination and assess if you can improve that score. JEE Main 2019 April or second attempt applications would open next month. Experts suggest that the students who have scored a raw score of about 250 and above and are ranking above 85 percentile may not worry about appearing for the exam in April.
