How to do JEE Counseling: Important points to know about process and documents required!

JEE Counseling is one of the major phases in admission after achieving a good rank in the JEE exam. This counselling will play an important role in deciding the college after a tough decision. This also includes the selection of the course for which student is going to start its career. It needs lots of research and advice from various people. So it is important for you to understand the process of counselling so that it might help you while you precede your career.

Now, after the JEE final result, your head is thinking of the counselling process, how it will be done? Which college should I choose and which course? These are the general questions. JEE counselling 2019 involves the selection of college and branch and it is a single counselling procedure or joint counselling after the merge of JEE and AIEEE by the government in 2015.

IIT JEE Counseling: A general review

For IIT counselling, it is important to take steps a little bit fast so that you can get the best seat as possible. Don’t take much time during the counselling period; apply for the best colleges as possible. The counselling of IIT JEE begins within the week after the announcement of the IIT JEE result and will be opened for some time after all other school boards declare their result.

This counselling is conducted by the JoSAA or Joint Seat Allocation Authority and has declared JEE counselling date and the seats are available for allocation. There is no fixed date for the seat allocation. JoSAA counselling is responsible for allocation is done only in the major institutions such as IITs, NITs and other government-funded colleges.

Although, there are other exams too for the state government colleges so admission in various colleges will happen in this duration only. Not being distracted from the path, Central Seat Allocation Board introduces a common preference form for the students to fill their preferred colleges for the IITs, NITs and other government-funded colleges.

This counselling process is similar for the JEE advanced counselling and JEE main counselling. For the JEE main counselling registration, students can visit the official website JEE main counselling official website. There is no JEE main counselling fees and students should not pay for any kind of unnecessary amount. Although the student has to pay for payment seat acceptance fee as decided by the JoSAA.

Process for the Joint admission counselling

Step 1: Registration

JEE counselling is done through an online process only. The JEE mains online counselling is similar to counselling for JEE advanced, so no need to worry about this. First, register on the official website and fill all your preferred choices and this will start after the declaration of the result.

Step 2: Apply for preferred choices and lock them

This step includes the filling of college preferences in JEE counselling process and candidates don’t forget to lock your choices through options freeze, slide and float. They can take their time in the filling process by interchanging and rearranging their preference and final choices have to be made at last. The process will be in descending order which means your top priority will be on top and lowest priority at the bottom. However JoSAA is going to conduct 1 to 7 rounds for the seat allocation.

Step 3: Seat allocation and results announcement

This step provides the details of the allocated seats to the student from the choices they have made and as per their ranking in the JEE result. All the results will be announced through online mode. For JEE mains result, click here. And for the JEE Advanced go to result in the page on the website.

Step 4: Issue of Letter for seat allocation and its payment

Under this step, a letter of seat allotment will be issued to the candidates and they can save, download or print directly from the website of JoSAA. The seat acceptance fee for the general candidates is Rs. 45000/- and for the reserved categories it will be 20000/-. It can vary as per the government guidelines for seat allocation fees.

Step 5: Timely candidate reporting and verification of documents

This is the last and important step of the counselling. Under this, the student has to report at the centre on time by carrying all the essential and original documents for the verification. Students must also carry one or two photocopies with them, in case of any requirement. Admission can be cancelled in case of late arrival at the centre, so it is necessary to go to the correct center on the correct time.

*Important points to know:

  1. In case of seat allotment changes, you are required to report twice at the reporting center.
  2. Once locked, the seat allotted preference cannot be modified, so be careful while giving preference to the colleges and verify first before the final lock.

List of Documents required for JEE advanced counselling

Here is the list of the documents required in JEE counselling process.

  • Seat allotment print form with locked choices
  • Issued Provisional JoSAA Seat Allotment Letter
  • 2 Photographs- passport size

TIPS TO ENSURE SUCCESS IN YOUR JEE CAREER

The following mentioned are few tips to success on how to become successful and to know what are your career goals.

1. Priorities and study goals :

You cannot have a short term plan if your ultimate aim is to be successful and get best Rank. All that you need to be doing is having your priorities set and that your career goals for study must be completely achievable. What should be your priorities of the day must be your valid question? You should ideally make a list and of your priorities and also plan your day. The specific tasks of the day must be outlined very well with the most important and required ones on top.

A successful student will always plan. He or she will know that taking these steps will make him a top scorer student  in his or her career than doing anything else. He or she will know that it is effective utilisation of his time for the first most important thing which will judge his or her credibility. Likewise one should be in a position to determine your short-term as well as long-term educational goals. One must also evaluate the progress that is necessary very frequently.

2. Be focused :

It is very much required of you to ask yourself whether you are completely focused in life. On one hand you say that you want successful career from IITs  and on the other hand your mind goes on wandering about too many things. Selection calls for complete dedication. Keeping a time table of what you are going to do and not letting your mind sway off to doing anything else is the requirement of the day. Are you really present at your study place physically and mentally? If you allow distractions like excessive partying, weekend off, girlfriends, hanging outs with friends a routine habit, chances are that focus can get a hit. Try to block out all distractions so that you have the time to truly focus on your study and career. The first few initial year of your study life are very essential to make you a better student in studies . Try to be better with it.

3. Broaden your Learning styles you need :

You think you will be a successful student if you tell yourself your limited number of Learning styles? If that is what you are thinking about then forget it. Nothing remains the same and the world will keep demanding for more. Try to update your knowledge and Learning styles. Make sure you do seek improvement of your know-hows and what you are utterly good at. Try and attend lectures, even seminars and also many Doubt classes. Get a chance to read books, be a practitioner and learn better from all your resources.

4. Accept challenge :

‘Successful student do not study in different ways. Instead they study differently’. This is the right proverb that can be used to adjudge the preparation of any student who wants to achieve success in his or her career. Yes it is true that a student is a true one only when he or she learns how to study efficiently. You need to take up tough challenges if you have to prove to one and all that you can study differently. By taking up tough and hard challenges you will reach those hidden points of your practice preparation where you have never disappoint before. It is a good idea to step away from your comfort zone and try to expand your preparations . When you want to see yourself reach the peak, you have to practice unlimited. Hard work and success plan and that zeal of being different is what will take you ahead. If you settle yourself into a routine and play it safe all the time, you will never ever get ahead in your career.

5. Avoid wasting time:

If you are someone who does not understand the value of time, it is high time you will have to even forget what success is. Success does not come easy. Instead it takes efforts to be successful. Each and every minute of your day will go in planning how to reach on top. Wasting time in talking, taking trips around, watching TV during work hours, social media distractions and mobile phones are a big no-no in the section. Why should one waste even a single hour of time when you know for sure that you can utilize it better at researching, talking to a few experts and managing counselor. Instead a good suggestion would be to not even waste time in going out in evenings every day. Try hard to reach your contacts very well and be friends with them instead. Be very practical when it comes to career planning things. If you ever want that break time for yourself, take it but it should not be very long. Such time management at an early stage in Preparation is what is going to make you a better student.

Effective Study Tips to get Maximum Score in JEE Main and Advanced 2019

The JEE Advanced 2019 is now just a month away! At this crucial phase, when you are in your last leg of preparation, it is essential to work out the best Study Schedule, so that you deliver optimum on the JEE Day. Here are a few tips on How to Prepare for JEE Advanced without losing the track:

Focus on Formula, Theorems and Concepts:

By this time, your preparation for JEE Advanced should be near completion. With multiple formulae, theorems and concepts, you are likely to get confused and to avoid the same, it is advisable to pen them down and keep revising them as and when needed. It will help you recall better. You can follow other ways to memorize such as, co-relating them with names or patterns that are easy to remember.

Concentrate on Topics That You Have Studied:

As you set out on the course to attain Excellence in JEE Advanced, it is likely to encounter topics that you haven’t been studied yet. Do not take up anything new. It’s time to concentrate on topics that you have already covered and try to make your concepts and concept-connections stronger.

Do Not Let Doubts overshadow your Preparation:

It is that crucial phase of preparation when you cannot allow even a single doubt to breed. However, if you come across any, just stay calm and try to navigate the waters around it. Approach your parents, teachers and mentors if needed. If you get bogged down by any doubt, make sure you get it cleared on time.

Quality time for Revision:

Make enough time to revise what you have studied till now. Having enough time in hand will enable you to revise the concepts thoroughly. Shallow revision will not help you much. Once again, Commit to Memory, this is the time to revise what you have studied.

Learn from the mistakes in the tests:

There are many tests available, both offline and online. It is important to develop a habit of taking tests of the same format. What is more important is to learn from the mistakes made in those tests. If you can amend those mistakes after every test, your performance will show a gradual improvement all the way. This is the only way to close the gap between preparation and performance and improve the examination temperament.

Don’t go beyond the syllabus and don’t leave a single topic in the syllabus:

All the questions asked in the JEE are from the prescribed syllabus. Some intelligent questions will check your ability to apply the concept but they are definitely not out of the syllabus. When you study from a foreign reference book, you may tend to learn topics that are not there in the syllabus. Cracking JEE is like crossing a river by a boat with maximum amount of load. If you take more than the prescribed limit, the boat will sink.

Keep a balance in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics:

You may not like one of the three subjects but examiner hardly cares what you like. All the three subjects have equal weight age in JEE. Therefore, study all of them with equal attention.

Never neglect the N.C.E.R.T. books:

The N.C.E.R.T. books are written by some of the best brains of India and these books are quite precise and concise. Your preparation must start with N.C.E.R.T. books. Read these books thoroughly and solve all the back exercises. Also try the ‘exampler problems’ for further practice of objective questions. Remember that reading and understanding the N.C.E.R.T. books are not the same thing.

Do’s and Don’ts to be considered before the exam:

  • Do not create unnecessary stress for yourself by studying before the exam as that will have a direct impact on your result and might affect your results as well.
  • Take at least 6-7 Hours of sleep so that you wake up fresh in the morning.
  • Have a light dinner a day before the examination.
  • Reach the Examination Centre at least an hour prior to the commencement of the exam to avoid any panic situation. Precautions are always better than sufferings.
  • Have a light breakfast like sandwich etc. Don’t go empty stomach or on a full stomach.
  • Remember to carry your Admit Card and stationary as permitted.
  • Don’t discuss any subject related things with friends.
  • Don’t carry any book or notebook to the examination hall.
  • Stay away from students who are doing last minute revision in the exam centre.
  • Read the instructions given in the question paper carefully.
