JEE Preparation : Tips to Increase your Score in Weekly Tests

The low score in a test, or series of tests, doesn’t have to demotivate or affect your JEE preparation. You can still clear your target exam with good rank if you consider the below points and take action now.

Tips to Improve Your Scores in JEE Tests

 Analyse your tests

Take a look at each test and assess if there’s anything you can do to improve your score. The purpose of the periodic tests in coaching is to make you realize your mistakes and not to repeat them in the succeeding tests.

Find your mistakes (they can be silly ones) and keep a note of them. Next time when appear for a test, have a look at the previous mistakes and try not to repeat them this time.

Talk to your teacher about your problems/doubts/weak spots

Teachers (for JEE  preparation) love students who are proactive and ask questions. Talk to them about the things you didn’t understand while solving the paper. They will tell you whether you need to work on your concepts, theory part, or need more practice to solve specific type of problems.

Have a voice in the classroom (or after the class when teacher open the session for questions). It never hurts to ask your doubts !

Be well prepared for upcoming tests

Don’t think about the final paper, the JEE exam, focus on doing better in next test. It’s a gradual process to improvement till the final day of the exam. Make sure you are clear on what you need to do to really ace these upcoming tests to raise the score as much as possible.

Successful test taking avoids carelessness. Learn your study material thoroughly. Summarize which chapters, topics, formulas etc. you expect will be on the test. Use a checklist. Choose a comfortable location for taking the test with good lighting and minimal distractions.

Make a notebook containing your mistakes

Make a notebook containing your silly mistakes, what went wrong, unnecessary calculations, time spent on solving the question, etc. Revise this notebook every time before the next test.

Avoid thinking you need to cram just before the test

You’ve prepared well enough! Avoid speaking with any fellow students who have not prepared, who express negativity and distract your preparation.

Relax during the test

Expect some test anxiety. It’s normal. Use relaxation techniques if you find yourself tensing and getting anxious during the test. Take slow, deep breaths. Don’t think about the fear. Acknowledge that you have done, and are doing, your best. Read the instructions carefully.

Approach the exam with confidence

Use whatever strategies you can to perform well – visualization, logic, talking to your self, practice, etc. View the exam as an opportunity to show how much you’ve studied and to receive a reward for the studying you’ve done.

Answer questions in a strategic order

Solve easy questions first to build confidence. In objective tests, it’s good to eliminate obvious incorrect answers.

Review the answers if you have time

Check if you have answered all the questions and not made any errors or mis-marked any answers. Change answers to questions if you erred or misread the question (this advantage is available in JEE Main and JEE Advanced).

MASTER TIPS TO RECALL JEE CONCEPTS QUICKLY

It is that time of the year again when you will find thousands of students cooped up in the libraries, trying to cram as much information as they can to give their best shot at the impending exams. With so much to learn and so less time, more often than not students do feel in the middle of nowhere. Even after toiling hard and preparing their best, when it comes to exam time they miserably fail at remembering anything from what they have learnt. If you too have experienced similar situation in the past and don’t want to mess it up again, going through the following tips will help you Recall quickly and effectively :

Make notes

How many times have you been told by your teachers to make notes? Note making is an essential art that helps you arrange all the important information in a concise and compact form, thereby helping you recall  in a quick way. Always make notes while learning as they can be of great help during the crucial time before the exam. Just a glance over your notes will help you revise quickly and efficiently.

Create Mind Maps

Try creating mind maps. Mind maps allow organising and understanding the information faster and better. It boosts your learning capacity and gives an overview of the idea. Mind maps unlock the potential of the brain as you can easily remember it and refer to it whenever required.

Construct mental images

Have you ever thought about forming images of whatever you are reading in your mind? If no then do it. Never underestimate the power of visualisation. Creating mental images accelerate learning and improve performance. It helps memorise in a better and effective way.

Keep your brain active

A lazy and lethargic brain will not only interfere with your learning but will also have trouble in memorising things. Keep your brain active and healthy. Sleep enough as it keeps your mind fresh and ready to absorb more information. In addition, eat healthy foods such as almonds, green vegetables, etc which improves brain power and aids in memorisation.

Teach what you have learnt

The easiest thing you could do to memorize well is teach whatever you have learnt to someone else. This could be your sibling, your parents, your niece, or you yourself. Teaching enhances your knowledge and strengthens your memory. It helps understand complex concepts and learn them in a relatively short span of time.

Understand to learn better and quicker

Blindly going about the learning process and trying to cram as much as you can is not going to help retain the information. In order to recall whatever you are reading, first understand it. Try to process what is being said in your brain and make sense of everything. Once you understand, it will be a lot easier to recall and absorb the information.

Feel connected

It is very important to feel connected to whatever you are reading. You cannot memorise or learn anything if you cannot make a connection. Take interest in the subject else you’ll take forever to learn something that should not take more than 5 minutes. Making connections help understand in a better way and you will have easier time remembering it.

AN YEAR GAP FOR JEE PREPARATION COULD BE A BETTER CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Being the last chance to attempt for IITs, engineering aspirants have already taken a bold decision to drop an year for JEE preparations. Dropping off a year for preparations is not an easy thing and takes a lot of patience and confidence. Succeeding mostly depends on the consistent attitude and determination towards the goal along with subsequent efforts failure to which can be very much disappointing to say the least. There may be many problems the aspirants may be aware of, but certain challenges may only peep in once you start preparing.  If you utilize this one year to maximum potential, this proves to be the golden opportunity for a lifetime.

Relaxing in the beginning leads to lack of preparation time – Students dropping a year tend to relax during the start and realize only when limited time is left. In order to avoid such circumstances, they should start planning (and strictly follow it) right from day first. Also include revision time even for those subjects that you are confidence about.

Stay away from demotivation – When the competition is fierce, motivation is low. Usually demotivation creeps in when you see your classmate attending college while you are still struggling. Make sure to stay motivated and do not let that budge you from giving the best attempt. Keep in mind the goal for which you are going through the tough and strive harder to achieve it.

Start from scratch – Even though you scored good sufficient ranking in the previous year JEE (first attempt), concepts should be revised from the beginning. Without the concepts being clear, there is no way you can reach around your previous rank. Start studying from the scratch and prepare harder day by day to beat your own score and crack JEE.

Never deviate from your goal – Always be goal oriented, after you have taken a step to drop a year for preparation do not be down casted. Instead think and write down the mistakes that held you from achieving it the previous time and think of working upon it. Once you get your mind set to this level, there is nothing that you can’t achieve and it is never too late to fix your mistakes.

Do not confuse yourself with various referrals – as different writers have different ways to solve a problem, hence referring to many books can lead to confusion. Stick to one source of study material as various sources may have numerical that may pertain to the exact concept but tricky to understand.

Why you are at an advantage ?

After getting a real exam experience, droppers are at an added advantage to take up the JEE exams 2019.

  • Make a thorough analysis and be committed – Before initiating your preparations analyse your previous mistakes or drawbacks as it will be very important and useful in planning your study. Beginning from the toughest subject, time preference of study (day or night), duration and style of learning list all the points and make a thorough analysis. With this commitment you will now be ready to start your preparation.
  • Be updated with the syllabus, pattern and books – being updated with the right syllabus and changing pattern is the first step to commence preparation. Select the easy to understand books rather than stocking up on tough and high level reference books. Instead go for NCERT books that include all the material to clear the concepts. Also keep a note of the examination date to remind you from time to time of the deadline to achieve your goal.
  • Plan your study systematically – getting one year to only prepare does not mean that you go for subjects as and when required. A smart study plan is essential in order to cover the entire syllabus. Divide the subjects and topics on day basis to cover according to your convenience. Also include mini breaks in the middle to rejuvenate and relax which will help you enhance your productivity.
  • Give time to visual learning – make use of the technology available to the fullest, as it is more engaging and effective. Webinars and online seminars provide the best faculty well versed with the subjects. This saves a lot of time by clearing the concepts at a faster pace. Visual learning helps in simplifying the hardest and the most complex of the topics and helps you retain the concept for a longer duration.
  • Judge your preparedness – go for regular online test series (all India level) to check your preparedness from an authentic source. This will help in knowing your Rank Potential index (RPI) and work on the weaker areas for better outcomes.

Most importantly, keep yourself updated with complete knowledge of the JEE 2019 syllabus, have a sound analysis of the previous year exam and the current changing trend of exam pattern. Never lose confidence as no one is perfect and always believe in yourself to give the best last shot in the examination to crack it.

PREPARATION TIPS TOWARDS YOUR JEE MAINS AND ADVANCED 2019 EXAMINATIONS

To get a good rank in JEE and make to the IIT, you need to have a strategic planning that suits the present format of selection. The present format demands an all-round performance as it considers your Board Examination, JEE Mains and Advanced. Here are certain points that would help you.

  • Never neglect the N.C.E.R.T. books
The N.C.E.R.T. books are written by some of the best brains of India and these books are quite precise and concise. Your preparation must start with N.C.E.R.T. books. Read these books thoroughly and solve all the back exercises. Also try the ‘exemplar problems’ for further practice of objective questions. Remember that reading and understanding the N.C.E.R.T. books are not the same thing.
  • Prepare well for your board examination – it does help your preparation towards JEE
Though from last year, your Class XII marks will not be required for JEE Main & Advanced rank determination, its still important for you you to score well in your boards. You need to do your best for the Board. A solid preparation for Board does help the preparation for JEE Mains as both these examinations are conducted by CBSE. Unlike JEE Mains, Board Exam has subjective questions, so develop the habit of answering subjective questions.
  • Which is more important – how long or how much you should study?
Honestly, neither of these; unless you know ‘how to study’. If you cram definitions and formulae, it hardly matters how long or how much you study. It is much better to understand and develop a clear concept. Once you know ‘how to study’ it would be wise to focus on how much topics you can cover up in a given time frame.
  • Plan for a week
Don’t plan for a day as it may not be accomplished for any unavoidable event on that day (you might be sick). If you make a plan for a week,   you have other days to compensate. Make a realistic plan that you can achieve at the end of the week. Once the plan is realistic, you must not postpone it to the next week.
  • Slow but steady does not win the race
Forget the story of ‘Hare and Tortoise’. Nowadays   the Hare does not sleep. Don’t be too slow as you have a lot to cover up in these two years. So, try to be fast and consistent. Make sure that you get at least four to five months for revision.
  • Learn from the mistakes in the tests
There are many tests available, both offline and online. It is important to develop a habit of taking tests of the same format. What is more important is to learn from the mistakes made in those tests. If you can amend those mistakes after every test, your performance will show a gradual improvement all the way. This is the only way to close the gap between preparation and performance and improve the examination temperament.
  • Do not follow too many books or study materials
Apart from N.C.E.R.T., it is important to follow one book thoroughly rather than following too many and completing none of them. The book followed must be authentic. It is better not to follow study materials of various institutions as they lay emphasis on one topic and completely ignore   the other. The new pattern wants you to read and comprehend every topic.
  • Don’t go beyond the syllabus and don’t leave a single topic in the syllabus
All the questions asked in the JEE are from the prescribed syllabus. Some intelligent questions will check your ability to apply the concept but they are definitely not out of the syllabus. When you study from a foreign reference book, you may tend to learn topics that are not there in the syllabus. Cracking JEE is like crossing a river by a boat with maximum amount of load. If you take more than the prescribed limit, the boat will sink.
  • Keep a balance in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
You may not like one of the three subjects but examiner hardly cares what you like. All the three subjects have equal weight age in JEE. Therefore, study all of them with equal attention.
  • Make a revision plan
Make a plan that suits your study pattern. Don’t start afresh before few weeks of examination. Do not try anything new just before the examination as this would waste your time and you may lose the information that you already grasped.
Suppose you have eighteen days to prepare before the examination, you revise chemistry in first six days, physics in the next six days and mathematics in the last. It may happen you may not be able to recall some important points of chemistry after eighteen days revision. So, try to study at least two subjects per day.
Let the pressure be on your study and not on yourself. Sleep well, eat light and stay calm to keep yourself fresh before the examination.

HOW BENEFICIAL JEE MAIN AND ADVANCED EXAM IN CBT MODE ?

JEE Advanced 2019 , the entrance exam for premier IITs(Indian Institutes of Technology) will be conducted completely online, according to a decision taken by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) recently.Until now the JEE Advanced pattern included two offline papers, namely paper -1 and paper – 2, that were conducted on the same day. Each paper comprises of questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken from Class XI & XII syllabus to be completed within 3 hours each.

The JEE Main admission to academic session 2019-2020 will be conducted by NTA ,it is the single window for getting admission to the NITs, IIITs & the Govt. Funded Technical Institutions. IIT aspirants must clear the JEE Advanced exam with a good score to join the premier IITs.

The transition from offline to online(CBT) mode took place with an aim to promote digital consumption of education, might have left many students upset.

Though aspirants need not panic as the following advantages should be kept in mind while preparation:

  • Saves time – with the elimination of encircling the correct option in the OMR sheets, online method will be much easier to choose the correct answer from thereby saving a lot of time. Students can utilize this time efficiently to apply themselves better while answering.
  • Easy to review – Earlier the candidates needed to keep an eye on the questions that can be answered but needed time to solve. But with the advent of online pattern, the answer panel will include all the questions – attempted as well as marked as review for later. This will be helpful in reviewing the difficult questions later on, with ease off access.
  • Answer modification – with the option to re-edit the answers in case the student feels may be incorrect provides the greatest of the advantages unlike encase of offline papers where the answers once marked cannot be altered.
  • Time Management – though this pattern may be new, but with enough practice while attempting the mock tests, students can limit their time and analyze how the expenditure of time could be managed effectively. Plan the total test time accordingly with time allotment for revision as well.
  • Watch your speed – while appearing for JEE advance 2018 online paper, students must feel confident enough to speed up their answering method. But be careful not to overlook or be overconfident as that may lead to negative marking.
  • Technical aspects – It should be noted that the sheets should be saved after answering each and every question and remember to submit the response sheet only after completing the paper.  In case of any technical problem, do not panic and immediately notify to the invigilator for assistance. Extra time will be allotted in such cases where delay is caused in fixing up the same. In case of ambiguity in any question do not go for an attempt.
  • Focused preparation – There is not much difference in the way of preparation but due to the panic on online exam, many students may get nervous. It is advised not to panic and stay focused in their preparation as constant revision and multiple attempts to model examinations will help them achieve their goals.
  • Choose reliable online portals – there are many online portals and hence students can choose from a reliable source to have a good practice prior to exams. Online practice portal not only helps with practicing for online pattern not only diminishes the chances of mistakes due to inexperience but also provides analysis that helps in better preparation – which subject to focus on, improving on the weak topics etc.

MATHEMATICS STUDY METHODS AND PROBLEM SOLVING TIPS FOR JEE ASPIRANTS

Mathematics is a subject that you cannot avoid. Some love it but, if we’re being honest, most people hate studying maths. The importance of maths for students has never been greater. STEM subjects are the basis for technologies of tomorrow. Most university courses include some level of maths while almost every profession uses maths in some form on a daily basis. The problem many students have is that they don’t know how to study maths to get good results.

Some Problem Solving Tips for Maths :

Practice, Practice & More Practice :

It is impossible to study maths properly by just reading and listening. To study maths you have to roll up your sleeves and actually solve some problems.  The more you practice answering maths problems, the better. Each problem has its own characteristics and it’s important to have solved it in numerous ways before tackling the exam. There is no escaping this reality, to do well in a Maths exam you need to have solved a LOT of mathematical problems beforehand.

Review Errors :

When you’re practising with these problems, it’s important to work through the process for each solution. If you have made any mistakes, you should review them and understand where your problem-solving skills let you down. Understanding how you approached the problem and where you went wrong is a great way of becoming stronger and avoiding the same mistakes in the future.

Master the Key Concepts :

Do not try to memorise the processes. This is counter-productive. It is much better and rewarding in the long-run to focus on understanding the process and logic that is involved. This will help you understand how you should approach such problems in the future.

Remember that Maths is a sequential subject so it’s important to have a firm understanding of the key concepts that underpin a mathematical topic before moving on to work on other, more complex solutions which are based on understanding the basics.

(Remember: Maths requires time and patience to master)

It is a good idea to study with a friend who you can consult with and bounce ideas off when trying to solve complex problems.

Create a Distraction Free Study Environment :

Mathematics is a subject that requires more concentration than any other. A proper study environment and a distraction free area could be the determining factor when solving complex equations or problems in geometry, algebra or trigonometry!

Apply Maths to Real World Problems :

As much as possible, try to apply real-world problems when approaching maths. Maths can be very abstract sometimes so looking for a practical application can help change your perspective and assimilate ideas differently.

Probability, for example, can be used in everyday life to predict the outcome of something happening and determine whether you want to take a risk such as if you should buy a lottery ticket or gamble.

Oh and don’t forget that it’s also important to have confidence in yourself and face the exam knowing that you have prepared properly!

CBSE BOARD EXAM 2019 :TIPS TO WRITE CLEAN , PRECISE ANSWERS, AND DEFEAT EXAM STRESS

CBSE board exams are due to begin soon. The CBSE class 12 board exams will begin on February 15 with Vocational subjects and conclude on April 4, 2019.

CBSE Board Exam 2019: CBSE board exams are due to begin soon. The CBSE class 12 board exams will begin on February 15 with Vocational subjects and conclude on April 4, 2019. CBSE class 10 board examination will begin on February 21 and end on March 29, 2019. The board exams are a stress and anxiety inducing time for students. One of the worries that plague students is that even after preparing adequately for the exam they may miss out on scoring good marks if they do not write the answers properly.

In order to dissipate this fear in students we spoke to some experts and curated the following tips to write presentable answers in CBSE board exams :

  • Basics: The main ingredient in writing an answer perfectly is knowledge. Students should make sure that they have revised every topic as per the syllabus given in NCERT textbooks.
  • NCERT questions: While preparing for board exams, students refer to several supplementary books and often end up ignoring their NCERT text books. Students should not ignore the questions given in their NCERT textbooks and keep them on their priority list while revising for the exam.
  • Sample Question Paper and Marking Scheme: Students should go through sample papers and marking scheme released by CBSE. Going through the sample question paper and accompanying marking scheme will help students understand what should be the length of an answer based on the marks allotted to it.
  • Word Limit: While writing your answers in exam, make sure that you do not exceed the word limit. The word limit means that it is possible to articulate the answer to that particular question in the allotted words. Exceeding word limit does not mean that you know more, it only shows that you are unable to articulate your knowledge in required number of words.
  • Margin: Making margins on the answer booklet is a god practice and makes your answers look presentable. Not every student can have a beautiful writing but every student can write answers clearly and in a clean manner.
Board Exam 2019: Tips To Fight exam Stress  :
  •  Revision: One of the key last minute strategies is to revise. But do not go reading through the whole book. Instead just go through the key points and important topics.
  •  Sample Paper: Students should solve one sample paper each day. This would help them understand time management and attempt question paper accordingly on the day of the exam.
  •  Drink Water: Stressed about the exams, students often miss out on the most important part of health-care and forget to hydrate themselves. Drink enough water and you will notice the difference.
  • Meditation: A few minutes of silence and meditation every day, before and during the exams, can do wonders in reducing stress and anxiety.
  • Food: Believe it or not, certain food items can help reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Admit Card: Arrange your bag for the exam day prior to the exam. Keep your admit card handy and all other stationery items in one place. While this is a very simple step, it will spare you last minute hurry.
  • Sleep: Some students tend to stay awake till late night or pull an all-nighter before the exam. This might seem like a good idea to students but it does more harm than good. Your brain needs sleep to rejuvenate and recharge before an exam. A good night’s sleep before the exam ensures that your brain is alert and works to its full capacity in the exam hall, not to mention a good night’s sleep is an all-time cure for stress.
