JEE Main 2020: Check eligibility criteria, JEE Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Schedule
JEE or Joint Entrance Examination is the most popular and national level of entrance exam organized for the 12th science students. It is responsible for providing admission in India’s top colleges such as IITs (Indian Institutions of Technology) and NITs (National Institutions of Technology) and other CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions).
This exam is conducted in two forms: JEE mains and JEE advanced. Students first have to get good marks in JEE mains and then only can apply for the JEE advanced. JEE mains is responsible for providing admission in NITs for students having good marks and JEE advanced provides admission in IITs for the students who clear cut off.
Students can appear two times in JEE Main 2020 and one paper includes two phases, one for B. Tech and B.E. and another one is for B. Arch and B. Planning.
Eligibility Criteria
The major points declared by the NTA for the eligibility for JEE Main 2020 are:
- The required age of the student for eligibility of exam must be higher than October 1, 1995. Further, students belong to the reserved category have extra granted age relaxation.
- The eligible students are who have completed 12th and equivalent exam in 2018, 2019 and also for those who are appearing in 2020.
- The essential subjects required in 12th for eligibility in JEE 2020 are physics and mathematics and the third subject is optional between chemistry, biology or biotechnology. Other than this, mathematics is significant subject for the students having more than 50% in total five subjects.
- The highest number of attempts in the student can appear is three and these three attempts must be in consecutive year. When a student attempt for two exams in the same year, it will be counted as a single attempt.
Important note: It is important that students must score above 75% as it is an important criterion to get admission in IITs and NITs. Or it must have ranked in top 20 percentile in the exam board, the candidate is appearing.
Process of filling and submitting Application / Schedule
It is already announced that JEE application form will start from 2 September 2019 and it will be conducted by NTA. The date of application for the next session of exam i.e. April session will start in second week of February 2020. The last date to submit the application is 30th of September. It is essential that candidates are required to submit only one application as multiple applications can be rejected. JEE 2020 Syllabus for Mains
The course for JEE Main can be directly seen at the NTA official website. But for general, the course includes all the topics related to subject Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the 11th and 12th class level.
However, the second paper includes the topics related to aptitude, mathematics and drawing.
JEE Exam Pattern for Main 2020
For paper 1
- Exam mode will be a computer-based test
- January session JEE main exam will be conducted in between 6 to 11 January 2020
- Similarly, April 2020 session will be conducted in between 3 to 9 April 2020
- The exam will be in three sections- Physics, chemistry and mathematics having 30 questions in each section. This means there will be a total 90 question overall in exam.
- The exam is objective in nature which means there will one correct answer out of multiple answers
- The exam duration will be for three hours and for special case of disable students, it will be for four hours.
- Medium of exam will be both in English and Hindi Medium. There is option of Gujarati language especially for Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Gujarat students.
- Marking scheme of the JEE main includes: 4 marks per question and 1 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer
- All the three sections of physics, chemistry and mathematics comprise of 30 questions each of 120 Marks.
For paper 2
- This paper is responsible for admission in architecture courses
- Paper contains three sections
- part 1 includes Mathematics which is objective type
- part 2 includes the Aptitude test which is objective type
- part 3 includes Drawing test and marks are given after checking the drawing
- Total number of questions is 82
- Duration of the exam is 3 hours
- Exam is conducted both in English and Hindi medium
- Marking Scheme: Mathematics and Aptitude Section comprises of 4marks for each question and drawing section comprises of two questions of total marks as 70.
- For each wrong answer, one mark will be deducted in Mathematics and Aptitude section while in drawing section is given as per the skills.
